Dr. Gordon Vanscoy,
PharmD, MBA, CACP

Chairman & CEO

With more than three decades of executive experience creating and developing successful medical and pharmaceutical service business ventures, Dr. Vanscoy is a recognized leader in the health care industry and a pioneer in the specialty pharmacy (SP) sector. He is the founding Chairman and CEO of RareMed® Solutions. Gordon also leads PANTHERx Specialty Pharmacy and serves as Associate Dean for Business Innovation and Associate Professor of Pharmacy and Therapeutics at the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt), where he recently launched the Master of Science in Pharmacy Business Administration degree program.

Prior to starting RareMed Solutions, Dr. Vanscoy founded PANTHERx Specialty Pharmacy, The Rare Disease SP®, served as the Chairman and CEO of WellCo Medical Solutions Inc., GreenCare US, LLC, and University Pharmacotherapy Associates Inc. Earlier in his career, while serving as Assistant Dean for Managed Care at Pitt, Gordon helped to grow one of the country’s first specialty pharmacy’s, Stadtlanders. He rose as an executive with Bergen Brunswig Specialty, and became Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at CVS ProCare. Prior to specialty pharmacy, Gordon served as Vice-Chair of the Department of Pharmacy and Therapeutics where he founded UPMC’s Drug Information and Pharmacoepidemiology Center. He was an active member of the University Biomedical Institutional Review Board, serving as Vice Chairman. At the beginning of his career, he developed one of the country’s first Anticoagulation Clinic Services and obtained medication-prescribing privileges at the Pittsburgh Veterans Affairs Health System.

Dr. Vanscoy received his Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy and Masters of Business Administration degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, and his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Duquesne University. Gordon completed an American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP)-accredited clinical residency at The Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh and a faculty fellowship in advanced geriatrics at the University of Pittsburgh Geriatric Education Center. He is nationally credentialed as a Certified Anticoagulation Care Provider.

In 2017, Dr. Vanscoy was awarded the University of Pittsburgh’s highest recognition, the Distinguished Alumni Fellow Award. In 2017, the Pittsburgh Business Times acknowledged him with a Pittsburgh Outstanding CEO and Top Executive Award. Gordon was recognized in 2016 by Smart Business Magazine as the top executive of one of the 50 smartest companies in the Western Pennsylvania for his ability to effectively build and lead successful organizations. He has published a number of textbook chapters, hundreds of scientific papers, and has received dozens of research grants and awards. Dr. Vanscoy has provided nearly a thousand invited lectures and served on many national and international committees. He is a past board member of the International Society of Pharmaceutical Outcomes (ISPOR), the ACPE National CE Provider Committee, the United States Pharmacopoeia’s (USP) Therapeutic Information Management Advisory Panel, the National Certified Anticoagulation Care Providers (CACP), the ASHP Foundation, and the American Red Cross. Gordon currently serves on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Specialty Pharmacy.

Dr. Douglas Gebhard,
PharmD, MBA

President

Dr. Douglas Gebhard brings to RareMed a unique background in the pharmaceutical services industry. He has held leadership positions with increasing responsibility at a number of large and growing pharmacy organizations which includes extensive experience in product development, operations, quality management, compliance, and clinical education. In his current role of President, RareMed Solutions, Dr. Gebhard works closely with his Executive team to ensure collaboration across all areas of the organization.

Prior to joining RareMed, Dr. Gebhard served as the VP of Pharmacy Services for PANTHERx® Rare Pharmacy.  He was responsible for overall operations and management at PANTHERx, including distribution, reimbursement, quality, compliance, and clinical education.  In addition, he also served as the program director for the PANTHERx Rare Fellowship which he helped to develop and implement.  Prior to leading all of Pharmacy Services for PANTHERx Rare, Dr. Gebhard served as Vice President of Quality & Education where he was responsible for compliance, accreditation, and strategic quality improvement.  In this role Gebhard also chaired the Quality Management Committee and the Clinical Oversight Committee. His efforts helped the company earn the highest score ever attained in the Zitter Health Insights Patient Satisfaction Survey including back-to-back Patient Choice awards in 2017 and 2018.

Earlier in his career, Doug led a cross-functional multidisciplinary team at CVS Health within Enterprise Product Innovation and Development. His team was responsible for the research, development, and implementation of patient-oriented healthcare initiatives and services.  His portfolio had a specific focus on developing products, services, and initiatives to redefine the role that CVS/pharmacy played in improving health outcomes for its patients and partners by directly addressing medication non-adherence.

Dr. Gebhard graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of pharmacy with his Doctor of Pharmacy degree.  Additionally, Doug received his Masters of Business Administration from the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh.

Vickie Hunt,
MS HRM, BSN, RN, MSCN

Senior Vice President, Client Services

Vickie Hunt, Senior Vice President (SVP) at RareMed Solutions, has been with the organization since its inception, and is responsible for overseeing Client Services and HUB Program Operations of RareSupport teams.

Prior to joining RareMed, Vickie leveraged her extensive years of solid clinical expertise in a variety of leadership positions across multiple business units and disease states including neurology, oncology, immunology, endocrinology, renal and liver transplantation. Vickie worked alongside Bayer Healthcare managing field and call center nurses for a comprehensive education, training, and patient assistance support program for injectable therapy. Vickie has partnered with Janssen Biotech and Novartis Pharmaceuticals, to lead customized remote teams for their General Medicine, Oncology and Rare Disease Franchises. Committed to excellence in healthcare delivery, Vickie recruited and launched a variety of successful national teams to provide clinical solutions, field reimbursement, navigator support, and access delivery for multiple complex specialty pharmacy products.

Vickie Hunt began her professional nursing career at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC Presbyterian). During this time, Vickie held several diverse clinical and management positions which encompassed surgical, trauma, ICU, ER, Case Management and Director leadership roles. Vickie had the privilege of working closely with Dr. Thomas Starzl, pioneer of liver transplantation.

Vickie Hunt earned her Master’s degree in Human Resource Management in Administration from LaRoche College, received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Duquesne University, as well as an undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Juniata College. Vickie holds an Account Management Certification from Kennesaw State University and additionally, is certified in Multiple Sclerosis. Vickie Hunt is a member of several professional organizations, including the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS), International Organization of Multiple Sclerosis Nurses (IOMSN), and the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS).

Gannon Vanscoy,
MPBA

Vice President, Strategy

As the Vice President of Strategy at RareMed , Gannon oversees strategic initiatives, including market research, new product/service development, product enhancements, strategic planning, vendor management, contract renewal, and pricing.

Gannon has been with RareMed since its formation in 2017 and has served in various leadership positions throughout the organization, most recently serving as Vice President of Markets and Analytics. Gannon has extensive experience in rare disease and specialty pharmacy, previously serving as the Director of Rare Markets and various other leadership positions at PANTHERx Rare Pharmacy. Gannon was a member of the deal team representing PANTHERx in the 2020 sale to Centene Corporation, leveraging his prior corporate investment banking experience.

Earlier in his career, Gannon served as a leader at a number of large multinational banks, both in internal and client-facing roles covering healthcare and insurance sectors. Gannon’s experience as a relationship director resulted in facilitating numerous acquisition financings for institutional clients.

Gannon received his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Miami and Master of Pharmacy Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh. He has published original articles in peer-reviewed publications. In 2019 Gannon was recognized by Pittsburgh Business Times as a 30 Under 30 honoree.

Gordon Vanscoy, Jr.,

Vice President, Business Operations

Gordon supports RareMed’s patient-facing team by leading many of the company’s behind-the-scenes teams, including Finance, Human Resources, and Marketing.  By managing these business operations, Gordon ensures that the rest of the team can focus on delivering the highest quality care to patients.

Before joining RareMed, Gordon served in a variety of roles as a finance and communications leader at one of the world’s largest airlines.  Gordon brings to RareMed a wide range of experience, including billion-dollar capital transaction management, controller team management, data analytics, business partner relations, and corporate communications.  Gordon began cultivating his expertise in rare and orphan disease states at PANTHERx Rare Pharmacy, where he provided communications and marketing support.

Gordon received his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business and his Masters of Business Administration from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, where he concentrated in Health Sector Management.

Scott Powell

Vice President, Technology & Innovation

Scott Powell serves as Vice President of Technology & Innovation at RareMed, where he oversees our comprehensive array of technology services, including Software Development, IT Infrastructure, Data Analytics, and Date Quality.  

Scott brings over 30 years of extensive leadership experience in the healthcare sector to RareMed. Scott began his career in the payer space, leading large-scale projects such as the implementation of Medicare Part D Call Centers and Tricare service centers. He also developed Operational Centers of Excellence focused on optimizing claims, enrollment, and billing processes, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery.  

Transitioning to the provider space, Scott successfully led a nationally recognized Revenue Cycle Management company through a significant period of growth and optimization. He was instrumental in building cohesive teams and implementing strategies that enhanced service quality and scalability.  

Immediately prior to joining RareMed, Scott served as a long-term consultant for a major insurance plan, where he concentrated on process optimization and vendor oversight for clinical programs targeting Medicare and Medicaid populations. His strategic insights and hands-on approach consistently drove improvements during program delivery and operational performance.  

Now, as a leader at RareMed, Scott is looking to the future in leading the company’s strategic technology roadmap, creating value-adding platforms, services, and systems for patients, providers, and other stakeholders in rare and complex disease care networks.

Dr. Justin Smerker,
PharmD, MPBA

Vice President, Business Development & Strategy

Dr. Smerker brings over twenty years of pharmacy and patient services experience to RareMed with the past decade focused on rare disease program development and launch, patient services, and specialty pharmacy offerings.  As a registered pharmacist and member of the RareMed leadership team, Dr. Smerker supports business development, implementation services, and strategic initiatives for rare and complex conditions.  Smerker, sets short and long-term business development strategies against company-wide targets, actively identifies a new business pipeline, and contributes to the capabilities narrative raising the profile of RareMed.

Prior to joining RareMed, Dr. Smerker spent eight years at PANTHERx Rare where he held multiple roles encompassing business development, account management, implementation, and clinical services functions.  During his tenure with PANTHERx, the company achieved exceptional organic growth both in revenue and specialty pharmacy market share.  He has served in a variety of leadership positions with increasing responsibility for both specialty and community pharmacy organizations.  Dr. Smerker has also served as a subject matter expert for the development of rare disease distinction standards by nationally recognized specialty pharmacy accreditation bodies.  Additionally, he has authored numerous industry articles and has been a featured speaker on specialty pharmacy topics.  He has held senior leadership roles working for both privately held and Fortune 25 publicly traded companies.

Smerker has wide-ranging experience in business development, patient services, specialty pharmacy contracting, and exclusive/semi-exclusive product launch strategy across multiple rare disease therapeutic areas including oncology, hematology, metabolics, nephrology, hepatology, and infectious disease.

He earned his PharmD. degree and Master of Pharmacy Business Administration (MPBA) degree, an executive-style program designed for leaders in the business of medicines, from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy and Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business.

Diane Hamilton

Vice President, Client Experience & Implementation

As Vice President of Client Experience & Implementation, Diane oversees a cross-functional team of implementation and project management resources responsible for the design, build, and launch of patient support program solutions.  The team utilizes best practices to provide day to day oversight of all implementation activities guiding new customers through scope, requirements, build, operational readiness planning, and post launch hyper care support.  Diane’s team is focused on delivering a consistent onboarding experience for clients while driving enhanced customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Diane brings over 25 years of success leading high performing teams in developing, managing, and improving patient support programs on behalf of pharmaceutical partners.  Prior to joining RareMed in 2023, Diane was the Vice President of Patient Support Services at Two Labs where she led a team of consultants responsible for the strategy, design, implementation, and operational oversight of patient support programs.  Diane also served as a Director of Customer Engagement and Implementation for a large hub services provider delivering expertise in new product launches, program transitions, REMS, patient support program strategy and design, tactical implementation, and operational planning and launch readiness.

Diane received her bachelor’s degree in business economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Mary Beth Toth,
PHR, SHRM-CP

Director, Human Resources

As the Director of Human Resources at RareMed Solutions, Mary Beth Toth is responsible for overseeing the success of the Human Resources Department, recruitment, performance management, employee relations, training, and employee benefits.

Mary Beth has over 15 years of progressive human resources experience in several industries including technology, health care, and education. Prior to joining RareMed Solutions, Mary Beth was the human resources manager responsible for all HR programs at Fi360. She credits the deep connections she made with the employees for making her time with Fi360 some of her professional best. One of her favorite positions was an internship for her favorite sports team, the Chicago White Sox. Mary Beth is a proud Chicago native, but she has felt right at home in her adopted city of Pittsburgh since 2014.

Mary Beth holds a bachelors degree from Loyola University Chicago. She received her Professional in Human Resources (P.H.R.) designation in 2010 and her Society of Human Resources Management – Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) designation in 2015.

Christine Reuschel

Director, Analytics

Christine brings 25 years of IT experience to RareMed. Her healthcare IT portfolio includes development of proprietary EMR’s, public health reporting, healthcare supply chain management and most recently specialty rare pharmacy.

Before joining RareMed, Christine was the Director of Enterprise Data + Analytics at PANTHERx Rare Specialty Pharmacy. She provided oversight and leadership to multiple teams to support the development and execution of reporting and business intelligence to improve patient care and business operations.  Prior to her time at PANTHERx, Christine served as the Data + Analytics Manager at Prodigo Solutions, an IT technology company specializing in healthcare supply chain solutions. She was responsible for building out the organization’s data services; managing data governance standards and processes related to Master Data Management (MDM). Christine also supported Hawaii’s only statewide all-payer, all-visit hospital-based data center, Hawaii Health Information Corporation [HHIC], as their Operations and Client Services Manager.

Christine received her bachelors degree in Management Information Systems from Robert Morris University.

Chris Regula

Director, Software Development

Chris is the Director of Software Development, dedicated to the success of the RarePath application. He brings over 10 years of managerial and IT engineering experience across multiple industries and organizations to RareMed.

Jennifer Sprague,
MHA

Account Director

Jennifer Sprague is an Account Director overseeing the management of operations for several of RareMed’s oncology programs. Jennifer is the primary point of contact for clients to advise on internal and external inquiries. Jennifer has extensive leadership experience in clinical research and molecular genetics, with expertise in patient advocacy, sales and account management, client services, and revenue cycle.

Prior to joining RareMed in 2023, Jennifer was the Director of Patient and Client Account Management with Interpace Diagnostics, overseeing client services, revenue cycle, patient support and supporting clinical development. Jennifer spent many years in clinical research and the management of clinical trials, with experience in cellular therapy, transplantation, medical devices, and pharmaceuticals.

Jennifer received her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the Ohio State University and Master of Health Administration from Ohio University.

Nate Boal,

Account Director

Nate Boal is an Account Director that is dedicated to the management of operations for one of RareMed’s programs. Nate serves as a trusted client advisor and is the primary point of contact for all internal and external inquiries. Nate has extensive leadership experience in pharmaceutical reimbursement, case management, market access, data analysis, and LTC services.

Nate has been with RareMed since 2019 and has been instrumental in implementing multiple program launches and transitions. Nate has worked on a variety of diverse programs with a primary focus on neurocognitive indications.

Before joining RareMed, Nate worked in a variety of leadership roles at ZOLL Lifecor, with a primary focus on reimbursement market access and clinical trials for a wearable defibrillator.

Nate received his Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and Master of Business Administration degree from California University of Pennsylvania.

Heather Len

Account Director

Heather Len is an Account Director overseeing the management of operations for several of RareMed’s neurology programs. Heather is the primary point of contact for clients and utilizes her expertise to advise them on internal and external inquiries. Heather has diverse experience working in HUB services and specialty pharmacy, as well as data analysis, clinical trial transitions, client services, and patient and case management support.

Heather came on board at the very beginning of RareMed and has directly contributed to the growth and success of the company. She has been instrumental in implementing multiple program launches and transitions over her time at RareMed. Heather has served in various leadership positions throughout the organization and has worked to create and launch new roles and implement new processes.

Kenna Lutton,

Kenna Lutton is a seasoned marketing and communications leader with an unwavering passion for transforming ideas into impactful visualizations and stories and connecting brands with their audiences. Kenna is the driving force behind RareMed’s brand presence and uses her expertise to manage the entity’s internal and external social media platforms, communications channels, website, graphic design, imagery, and messaging, collectively elevating RareMed’s digital presence.   

Since joining RareMed in 2022, Kenna has been instrumental in the growth of RareMed’s Marketing team, enhancing and refining the RareMed brand, and working to support marketing and communications-related projects across the organization. Kenna also plays a key role in managing employee engagement and contributes as a member of RareMed’s Values and Culture Committee.  

Kenna was a participant in RareMed’s inaugural cohort of the Rare Future Leaders Program, an experiential leadership development initiative designed to enhance individuals’ ability to drive growth and change within the organization through independent learning and mentorship.  

Kenna holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Business Administration from Chatham University. Prior to joining RareMed Solutions, Kenna worked as a Program Coordinator at the University of Pittsburgh where she was responsible for her department’s marketing and learning and development initiatives.  

Shannon Wiley,
JD, BA

Legal Counsel

Shannon Wiley focuses her practice on healthcare regulatory and transactional matters with a specific emphasis on the pharmaceutical industry specializing in specialty pharmacy, digital pharmacy, and infusion providers. Shannon provides clients with legal guidance driven by a deep understanding of their business. She assists clients with transactional and regulatory matters involving ambulatory infusion centers, digital pharmacy networks, limited distribution networks, pharmacy services agreements, the 340B program, hub arrangements, data services arrangements, and GPO agreements. She advises clients on regulations such as the Anti-Kickback Statute, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Civil Monetary Penalty Law, FDA regulations such as the Drug Supply Chain Security Act and state pharmacy laws.

Shannon’s practice involves counsel related to:

• Specialty Pharmaceuticals – Assisting specialty pharmacies, drug manufacturers, and data aggregators with program development, contracting strategy and negotiation, regulatory guidance, and licensure issues.
• Infusion Providers – Assisting pharmacies, physician clinics, and ambulatory infusion centers with regulatory and operational issues related to an infusion business.
• Digital Pharmacies – Assisting technology providers, drug manufacturers, and pharmacies in navigating the operational and regulatory issues related to digital pharmacy offerings.
• Healthcare Transactions – Assisting strategic and financial buyers in identifying targets in the pharmacy, infusion, and digital pharmacy sectors, conducting diligence, and navigating the transaction process, as well as advisement for industry targets on their sell-side process.
• Drug Distribution – Providing supply chain regulatory guidance to specialty and retail pharmacies, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and wholesale distributors.
• Healthcare Contracting, Regulatory & Operational Matters – Providing counsel on healthcare operations, regulatory and reimbursement issues; assisting with drafting and negotiation of contracts such as drug purchase, enhanced service, data, and GPO agreements

Shannon is a member of the American Health Law Association, the National Association of Specialty Pharmacies, the American Pharmacists Association, the National Infusion Center Association, and the Memphis Bar Association, where she served as a Chair and Board Member of the Health Law Section.
