2023 Year in Review

Reflecting on the remarkable journey of the RareMed Team throughout the past year fills us with immense pride and gratitude. As we penned our 2022 Year in Review blog, we were so eager to tackle 2023, but the extraordinary accomplishments that unfolded surpassed our goals, both as a company and as a team.

This year started out strong, marked by the commencement of construction on our new HQ and continued into the spring with our team’s celebration of Rare Disease Day which had us in the spotlight on some local news channels, highlighting our team’s dedication! Notably, RareMed celebrated its fifth birthday which was accompanied by a comprehensive rebrand, complete with a new logo, slogan, and website. This pivotal moment also saw an expansion of our focus to encompass rare and complex disorders, enabling us to forge new partnerships and extend our outreach to a greater number of underserved patients in need.

Amidst our growth and excitement surrounding new opportunities, 2023 was a momentous year for awards and recognition at RareMed. This year the company was nominated for and awarded recognitions from The Pittsburgh Business Times, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pittsburgh Inno, The Pittsburgh Technology Council, and more! RareMed also consistently received high rankings (90+) in the MMIT Patient Satisfaction Surveys. RareMed was recognized for the fourth year in a row as a Top Workplace by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and for the third year in a row as a Best Places to Work by the Pittsburgh Business Times, where we were pleased to take a top-3 spot for the second year in a row. RareMed also maintained its position as the fastest-growing healthcare company in the region in the Pittsburgh Business Times’ Fast 50 awards, and in a notable first, was voted Innovator of the Year by the Pittsburgh Technology Council in the Tech 50 awards, where CEO Dr. Gordon Vanscoy was ranked as a finalist in the CEO of the Year Awards as well. In yet another milestone for our leaders, President, Dr. Douglas Gebhard received the Trailblazing Innovator award from the Pittsburgh Inno Fire Awards!

These triumphs would not have been possible without the substantial growth we experienced in 2023. In 2022, RareMed’s employee base doubled in size, and we have continued that momentum through 2023. Sustainable growth has become both a symbolic and physical cornerstone for RareMed, empowering us to navigate new challenges, forge new strategic partnerships, and expand our presence. Geographically, RareMed expanded into North Carolina and Florida, while professionally, we instituted the Rare Future Leaders program, fostering leadership development within the organization. Witnessing over 60 internal promotions this year, our journey has been marked by substantial personal and professional growth.

Overall, RareMed has had another monumental year that leaves us feeling humbled and excited for what is to come.  At the same time, we remain vigilant to uphold the standards and values that have become the hallmarks of our reputation over the years.  The upward trajectory continues with our dedicated team by our side, and we extend heartfelt gratitude to Team RareMed, our partners, and our patients for their pivotal roles in our success. Their unwavering support allows us to advance our mission of accelerating access to patient care, every single day.
